Hello, I am Pinky Wandallena, the Breast Cancer Survivor Fairy, and I would like to welcome you to my blog.  As a three-time breast cancer survivor I will share with you inspirational stories, meditations, useful tips and recipes.

People ask me about Pinky's "birth." The idea shouted out to me when I was under extreme stress. It was October 28, 2007, and I felt an unusual lump unde my left arm pit, an area that had been operated on and radiated in 2000.

I called my oncologist, and he arranged for an appointment on October 31. Rather than spend the next 72 hours worrying, I decided to focus on creating a Halloween Costume. Since October is dedicated to breast cancer awareness, I wanted a costume dedicated to that theme ... something that would combine the color with an attitude plus some diva. Voila! Pinky Wandallena was born.

The morning of my oncology appointment I decided to go to work dressed as Pinky. It was a remarkable ferry ride to San Francisco, and the return ride home was filled with 55 minutes of magical laughter with dozens of tourists asking me for my autograph and taking my picture.

The 10 minute drive from the Vallejo Waterfront to the hospital felt as if everthing was in slow motion. I wanted to cry, but each time I looked at myself in the mirror, I would burst into hysterical laughter.

The walk from the hospital parking lot to the medical office caused quite an uproar.  I drew a huge crowd of on-lookers. Toddlers stopped crying. Older people on walkers smiled. Some people ran up to me and asked for a hug. Somehow, I forgot the reason for my medical appointment.

Then it was time to see the specialist. My oncologist looked at me and remarked, "I am not surprized. This is your style!" After the exam he concluded that the lump was scar tissue.I had nothing to worry about.  I was overjoyed!

Ironically, four years later, December 2011, I underwent a mastectomy. The "scar tissue" was in fact a malignant tumor.  And that, dear friends, is the main reason for sharing my story.
