My creativity has allowed me to look past the illness and allow my uniqueness to flourish. Writing has enabled me to express myself in a very concrete, unique way.
As I became stronger and healthier, the tone of my poetry changed. I no longer write about the sadness and tears associated with the illness. Now, I find myself writing about being in a long-term, harmonious relationship.

"How can it be that with only one glance
I felt our souls connect
beyond the ocean's vast breeze?
Sadly, the distance is a gate
which separates us.
Yet I patiently await
our rendezvous, albeit in our dreams.
Our souls are without barriers,
and we are free to embrace
throughout the night.
Like the majestic Phoenix I soar
in dream's flight
so I might
feel the pulse of your heartbeat
and be alone nevermore.
I welcome the dream state so I can fly past distance's gate.
Every dawn I shed a tear.
Each new day is a painful flight
for my soul to return
and leave your side.
The loneliness without you I cannot hide.
How I welcome the evening sky.
Each twinkling star
is a reminder that you are not far
from my soul
as I fly in my dreams
to be with you once more."

And yes, I am an old-fashioned romantic who feels there is a special someone out there for everybody.
